Our Omni Buying and Digital Merchandising Executive Development Program is offered at our corporate offices in New York City. Programs start throughout the year based on business need.
During this 10-week training program you will experience a blended learning environment. You will attend structured classes focused on both professional development and business acumen. You will also be assigned to a merchant team and have the opportunity to apply your learning in a real, multi-million dollar, business environment. You’ll have many chances to interact with senior executives, business partners, and EDP alumni to gain greater insight into the company culture and career paths available to you in our dynamic organization. Upon completion of the program, you will be assigned to a team as an Omni Assistant Buyer or Digital Assistant Merchant. Beyond the Executive Development Program, you will continually have exposure to new learning opportunities and leadership development.
As a member of the Omni Buying and Digital Merchandising team, you'll be directly responsible for the merchandise assortment offered at every Macy’s department store across the country as well as macys.com. Through the Omni Buying / Digital Merchandising Executive Development Program, you will build expertise in identifying and capturing product and market trends, consumer-focused analysis, strategic assortment planning, business development, pricing, digital marketing, and advertising. Each member of the Buying and Digital Merchandising team contributes to driving the business. Even as a new executive, you will identify business opportunities and make recommendations that have a direct impact on sales and profitability.

Omni Buyers are directly responsible for the assortment selection, pricing strategy, and procurement for their product categories across all purchasing channels, including Macy’s brick-and-mortar stores and the macys.com website. Omni-Buyers work closely with their Digital Merchant counterpart to drive omnichannel revenue growth.
Digital Merchants influence the online assortment and are directly responsible for driving site merchandising and marketing strategies to maximize online demand. The Digital Merchants work closely with their Omni-Buyer counterpart to drive omnichannel revenue growth.
The Merchant Executive Development Program provides big-picture exposure to Macy's business model while also diving into to the technical and business skills required for merchant roles within our department store and online businesses. The Merchant Executive Development Program will prepare you for your first merchant role in planning or buying.
Assistants learn the operational components of running a successful business while receiving significant exposure and development. This is a developmental role that prepares you for an Associate role.
Associates are given direct responsibility for a particular area of business within their Buyer's total category. Associates are directly responsible for the sales and profitability of their assigned area. In many cases, Associates will assume the responsibility of managing and training the Assistant Buyers. This is a developmental role that prepares you for a Buyer role.
Buyers are responsible for the sales and profitability of a total category of business through strategy development and execution, as well as leading and developing their team of assistants/associates.
Vice President / Merchandise Managers are responsible for developing the assortment strategy while leading a team of Buyers.
Group Vice President / Divisional Merchandise Managers are responsible for directing the strategy and execution for a designated division of business.
In these senior level positions, executives direct the financial objectives, assortment, and strategy for multiple divisions of business.
Macy’s is looking for individuals dedicated to personal development and achieving results. You will need a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university by the time you start with us, and a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA is preferred. All majors will be considered for this opportunity.
