What to Wear

So you're planning to interview with a company that's a fashion leader in retail. How should you dress?

The business world has certainly sent mixed signals in recent years – shifting from corporate suits to business casual to sometimes very casual, depending on the organization.

Good advice for interview dressing is to kick it up a notch, even in business casual environments. The key is to look polished and professional. Here are some guidelines:

WOMEN

  • Solid color, conservative suit (skirt or pants) with coordinated blouse
  • Moderate heeled closed-toe shoes
  • Limited jewelry
  • Neat, professional hairstyle and manicured nails
  • Light make-up and little or no perfume
  • Portfolio or briefcase

MEN

  • Solid color, conservative suit, long-sleeve shirt, conservative tie
  • Professional shoes with dark socks
  • Neat hairstyle and trimmed nails
  • Little or no cologne or aftershave
  • Portfolio or briefcase
