Diversity

Thriving on Diversity

Our employee population is among the most inclusive in the retail industry. We are women (Over 65% of our executives). We are diverse (Nearly one third of our executives are racial minorities). We are ages 18 to 70, and beyond. We prefer various lifestyles. Many of us are living with disabilities.

But diversity at Macy’s, Inc. isn’t about numbers. It’s about collaboration. That’s the best way we know to build enthusiastic and innovative teams and an environment that nurtures talent, idea-sharing and individuality.

You’ll find plenty of action to back up our dedication to diversity. We devote significant resources – both in dollars and experience – to recruiting, developing and promoting employees of all types.

As part of our training curriculum, all new hires are introduced to our diversity philosophy through courses that emphasize inclusion and the business rationale behind it. Likewise, Diversity Education, Diversity Awareness and Diversity Leadership programs keep this message alive at all levels of our organization.

We serve customers in practically every geographic and demographic segment in the United States. And each of our stores reflects the characteristics of its customers through merchandise styles and assortments, store displays and advertising, and support of community related special events.

We actively market to diverse communities through publications serving – and often owned by – people of minority and ethnic groups. These efforts help us communicate and connect with our diverse customers, and they support our philosophy of reinvesting and creating economic vitality in the communities where we do business.

Macy’s, Inc. has been recognized for our record in support of diversity. Some of the recognition we’ve received includes:
  • Being named by the National Association For Female Executives as one of the top companies for executive women
  • Listed among noteworthy companies for diversity by DiversityInc.
  • Included by Latina Style magazine among its 50 Best Companies for Latinas to Work For in the United States
  • Received 100, the highest rating in the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Corporate Equality Index, for our record of support for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender employees and customers.
  • Listed by HISPANIC magazine as among the top 100 companies providing the best opportunities for Latinos
