I chose Macy's because they made it clear from the beginning that you have the opportunity to pursue different career paths. Brand management, merchandising, product development, marketing and finance - you can do pretty much anything.
My degree in finance from Ohio State helped me prepare for Macy's because retail is a business. You need to know how to analyze your sales, decide how you can improve your numbers, all while keeping your customers in mind and pleasing them.
In my job, I enjoy dealing with vendors. Not just domestic ones, but some as far away as Egypt and Singapore. Seeing the new trend, what's coming out. Discussing how we're going to reach the younger consumer, how we can better serve our customer by narrowing our assortments.
